Ulrica Jobe

MEd, Child & Family Counsellor & Parent Coach

“I am a passionate coach, counsellor, speaker and workshop facilitator working with parents, children, teens, young adults, families and educators. I always see a spark in the faces of those I work with during the first session and within a couple of sessions we have a clear idea about what to focus on and the steps required to make the changes. With the support of my coaching and counselling, my clients are able to explore and resolve challenges and difficult emotions that are holding them back and most importantly I help my clients develop a roadmap for the future.”

Ulrica’s warmth and compassion set the stage for her clients to feel at ease, gain trust and be motivated to explore new ideas and perspectives.  Clients who work with Ulrica will leave their sessions and workshops with confidence and a meaningful and actionable plan.  Clients will learn the importance of self reflection, how to apply new strategies to communicate more effectively, how to understand and process difficult emotions, and practical approaches to thrive as an individual or as a family.

Ulrica obtained her MEd in Developmental Psychology and Education with a specialization in Mental Health from OISE, University of Toronto.  Ulrica has been trained and mentored by Jennifer Kolari in the Connected Parenting methodology and is a Certified Connected Parenting therapist on Jennifer’s team.  Ulrica is also the Parent Coach on Staff at The Giving Tree Centre in Toronto.  Ulrica sees clients online and in person, and runs group parent coaching sessions in Midtown Toronto.  Ulrica is the founder of True Compass, an organization with a mission to support social emotional learning and mental health support for all ages and stages, provide coaching and counselling services, and deliver interactive and engaging presentations to parent groups.

Ulrica brings valuable skills, knowledge and experience to her work and incorporates evidence-based research done by Dan Siegel (Interpersonal Neurobiology), Gordon Neufeld (Attachment), Carol Dweck (Growth Mindset), Gabor Mate (Trauma Informed Practices), Kristin Neff (Self-Compassion), Jon Kabat Zinn (Mindfulness), Martin Seligman (Positive Psychology), Norman Garbezy (Resilience), Ross Greene (Collaborative and Proactive Solutions), Terry Real (Relational Life Therapy), Susan David (Emotional Agility), and Brené Brown (Shame, Vulnerability, Courage, Connection) into her practice.  Ulrica has trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Relational Therapy and Relational Life Therapy.

That’s the professional bio.  Here is a bit more about me.

I started True Compass, working as a child and family counsellor and parent coach, because I wanted to make a direct impact on families’ lives.  What started out as parent coaching, has now evolved to include child and family counselling, parent workshops and social emotional coaching for all ages.  My purpose now is to teach others how to be curious about themselves.  The WHY and HOW.  Why do we react the way we do to life’s challenges and HOW do we learn to positively respond in ways that feel effective and authentic, based on our values and moral compass?

I spend every day helping others take a deeper dive into these concepts in one way or another.  Sometimes the concepts are difficult to unpack and understand, so I consider myself a knowledge translator and take evidence-based research and help make it accessible.  I work with children as young as 5 and my oldest client is 75.  It’s never too early to start and it’s never too late to learn.

I focus a lot of my time coaching parents how to build meaningful and deeply connected relationships with their children.  I help parents to understand the importance of self reflection and self regulation in those BIG parenting moments, how to parent from a place of love and empathy, while also not losing sight of the importance of setting loving limits and following through on consequences.  A lot of the time, we seek help for our kids and neglect ourselves.  We overlook the value of acquiring knowledge, skills and support for ourselves.  In turn, how that can fundamentally change the trajectory of the relationship you have with your child, that lasts for a lifetime.   I am able to support parents, caregivers and couples learning how to co-parent, whether they are together, separated or divorced.

We learned all about reading, writing and arithmetic growing up, but most of us didn’t have the opportunity to consciously learn about how to be human.  We didn’t learn how to handle our own big feelings, thoughts, emotions or life’s ups and downs, let alone how to teach the little humans in our lives how to handle them.

Let’s start now, together.

I have known for a long time that my superpower is my ability to connect with and support others in an authentic and meaningful way.

I am so fortunate I now get to do this work each and every day.

Here is how you can get in touch.  I would happily have an introductory call at no charge so we can discuss how I can help.
